Automation Engineering Technical Lead

Corning Optical Communications LLC seeks an Automation Engineering Technical Lead to work in Hickory, NC. The role involves maintaining and executing automation controls strategy in a discrete manufacturing environment, providing electrical and controls engineering expertise in support of new fiber optic automation equipment, continuous improvements, cost reductions, and maintenance. The candidate will participate in and direct all phases of projects from design to technology transfer, develop control architecture and system integration requirements for manufacturing environments, and travel internationally (Mexico, Poland) and domestically about 20% of the time.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience using Beckhoff, Omron, ABB, or Siemens PLC automation platforms to design and support electrical/control systems for automated fiber optic component assembly.
• Minimum 5 years experience leading continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives for custom automated equipment in a discrete manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 2 years experience performing data analytics using Python to develop, deliver, and improve fiber optic automation.
• Minimum 1 year experience with large‑scale project management and innovation in the fiber optic automation space.
