Engineering Technician

Talascend is currently seeking an Engineering Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Hickory, North Carolina
.

In this role, you will support electric utility engineering work by performing field inspections, engineering design work, and calculations. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews and outage root cause analysis.

• Review work provided by client and assess requirements of scopes.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Travel to sites as needed to perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
• Collect field data to assist with the development of electrical design work packages.
• Coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and joint‑owned pole stakeholders.
• Engage with technical design and client standards to support quality and timeliness of design deliverables to QA/QC.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree or higher in engineering technology or related.
• Willingness to perform both field and office work.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Power/Utilities experience is preferred.
• Previous experience with field data collection is preferred.
• Valid US driver's license (local and regional travel required).
• Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

• Power industry experience.
• Previous experience with field data collection.

40 hours, 5 days per week
