Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications.
The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Corning Incorporated is seeking a Sr. Cable Process Development Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will develop, document, and implement new processes, products, and equipment - with a focus on optical cable manufacturing and automation. You will work closely with engineers and cross-functional project teams to design mechanical solutions, execute experiments, and deliver production-ready results that drive customer value.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with engineers to design, detail, and document mechanical parts and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor (3D CAD), ensuring compliance with documentation standards
- Set up, test, and debug electromechanical systems; optimize performance and resolve technical issues through systematic troubleshooting
- Develop and execute experimental plans, perform tests, organize data, and deliver clear test reports and technical documentation
- Specify, procure, and coordinate mechanical equipment and components with internal and external suppliers and machine shops
- Apply structured problem-solving methods - including Kepner-Tregoe (KT), Designed Experimentation, and Six Sigma - to drive process and equipment improvements
- Develop draft procedures and documentation for processes and equipment; support training of personnel on newly deployed systems
- Capture new ideas for potential patent submission and contribute to a culture of continuous innovation
- Maintain and promote a safe work environment at all times
- Required
- Associate's degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years of manufacturing or equipment development experience; OR 7+ years of relevant manufacturing experience
- Hands-on experience with process equipment such as extrusion, UV processing, or electromechanical systems
- Experience using 3D CAD software for mechanical part and assembly detailing and documentation
- Experience with mechanical equipment design, procurement, installation, and debugging
- Experience with equipment installation, setup, and process optimization
- Ability to coordinate with suppliers, machine shops, and internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Minimal travel required (less than 10%); occasional travel to other Corning manufacturing locations may be required based on project needs
