Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.
This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
- Improve existing manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilities
- Support or lead continuous improvement activities, new materials or process receivership, cost reduction projects, and equipment installs and debug.
Solve material and process issues in production through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts
Document and share material and process knowledge across organizations
Day to Day Responsibilities- Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
- Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
- Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
- Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products.
- Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address material/equipment/process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plans
- Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper processes are followed during transfer.

Hickory, NC
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:8 hours/day; 40 hours/week
- Travel:
Up to 25% to various manufacturing sites in the division.
BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines:
Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Ceramic Engineering
2+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization
- Use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes
- Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Minitab, or equivalent
- Determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelines
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting.
- Work well both within a multi-disciplined team, and independently with minimal oversight.
