Position Summary
Examine patients with breathing‑related conditions and conduct diagnostic testing. Consult with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Perform physiotherapy and other treatments and teach patients to use medications.
Essential Functions
- Measure lung capacity and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
- Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per care plan.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices. Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance.
- Assess patient condition and deliver appropriate treatment.
- Educate the patient and family about the patient’s illness and provide information about community support groups and other resources.
- Monitor, receive stocks, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
- Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
- Disassemble, clean, sterilize equipment, and perform preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
Education / Certification
- Associate degree in science required.
- Current unencumbered clinical license according to the state of practice guidelines.
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire date.
