Position: Set-Up Operator Night Shift 6:30 pm-3:00 am M-F Overtime as needed

Job Title

Position Summary

Ensures the safe, efficient flow of pocket-coil production by setting up, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Lian Rou coilers, assembly equipment, and related roll-packing systems. Supports consistent product quality, accurate material control, and reliable equipment operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment Setup, Operation, and Maintenance

  • Respond to machine trouble lights, diagnose issues, and make appropriate adjustments to assembly equipment and coilers.
  • Perform assembly-machine and coiler setups according to product specifications.
  • Perform advanced coiler diagnostics to identify faulty valves, bearings, timing issues, and other conditions that may prevent production of a quality coil.
  • Perform advanced coiler tuning, including re-timing equipment after cam changes.
  • Independently complete advanced maintenance and repairs on assemblers and coilers within the scope of the position.
  • Lubricate machine components as required, check oil levels, and prevent grease or oil from contacting finished product.
  • Set up and operate the roll-pack machine; change roll-pack paper as needed.
  • Refill the glue hopper and maintain required operating supplies.

Production and Material Flow

  • Monitor the status of idle machines and ensure they are prepared to run when needed.
  • Keep backup coiling wire and fabric staged near each machine to minimize downtime.
  • Change fabric and wire rolls using a forklift, following all applicable safety procedures.
  • Tag partially used wire rolls when removing them from a machine.
  • Check machine locations for material variances and use the JDE system to transfer, record, and tag materials and finished product accurately.
  • Transfer finished units from the kick-off table to a cart or roll-pack machine.
  • Roll-pack finished units, wrap completed product as required, and move finished units using a hand cart or forklift.

Quality and Team Support

  • Monitor coil size and quality throughout production.
  • Verify that first-piece inspection has been completed before full production begins.
  • Measure finished units and perform required quality checks.
  • Monitor, sort, and repair coil strands with scissors as needed.
  • Work with core-group members to ensure conforming product is produced and quality concerns are addressed promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area throughout the shift and complete end-of-shift housekeeping.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality; consistent presence is essential to the success of the position and the company.
  • Work overtime, sometimes on short notice, when required to support production or respond to equipment breakdowns.
  • Perform the duties of the position independently and seek assistance when conditions exceed training or authorization.
  • Complete other job-related assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Education, training, and/or manufacturing experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position safely and effectively.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and follow product specifications, setup instructions, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, adjust, and repair production equipment.
  • Ability to use measuring tools and recognize nonconforming coils or finished units.
  • Ability to use JDE and related production-record systems accurately.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize equipment needs, and respond with urgency to production interruptions.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend at the waist, stretch, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or balance as job duties require.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, assemble, adjust, and repair parts and materials.
  • Lift, pull, push, or exert force up to 50 pounds.
  • Use close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Work near moving mechanical parts and in areas with vibration and potential electrical hazards.
