Metrology Technician Overview

US Conec is seeking an Optical Metrology Technician to support the production and development of advanced fiber optic connectivity solutions. This role is responsible for precision optical measurement, inspection, testing, and metrology activities that ensure product quality, manufacturing excellence, and process reliability. The position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to drive continuous improvement and support new product development initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Perform optical inspections, measurements, testing, and process verification activities to support PTMT production operations.
  • Evaluate dimensional, surface, and optical performance characteristics of fiber optic connectors, ferrules, assemblies, and related components.
  • Operate, program, maintain, and troubleshoot optical metrology and inspection equipment used in manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI), capability studies, and ongoing process verification activities.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to optical measurement systems, test equipment, fixtures, and inspection processes.
  • Establish and maintain calibration schedules, measurement standards, and operating procedures for optical and metrology equipment.
  • Partner with engineering teams to develop, validate, and implement new measurement methods, fixtures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical training and support to production personnel on inspection methods, measurement techniques, and approved testing procedures.
  • Analyze measurement and inspection data and communicate findings to manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, process capability, measurement repeatability, and production efficiency.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to inspection methods, calibration records, validation studies, work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
Must Haves
  • Associate degree in Applied Science, Optical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Optical Technician, Metrology Technician, Precision Measurement Technician, or a similar technical role.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting optical component manufacturing, fiber optic connector production, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of optical measurement, inspection, and testing techniques.
  • Experience operating microscopes, interferometers, vision systems, or other optical inspection and metrology equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience with equipment calibration, measurement system verification, and process documentation.
  • Proficiency with measurement software, data collection systems, and data analysis tools.
