Senior R&D Technician –
Location:
Hickory, NC. Full-time, Day shift. The Senior R&D Technician will be responsible for the coating and testing of solvent-based pressure sensitive adhesive tapes. This includes lab coating and pilot coater activities. Both physical (controlled environment) and application-based testing (field environment) will be the main activities. This role supports the development and evaluation of pressure sensitive adhesive tape products related to specific projects run by the scientist group.
In addition, the Senior R&D Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the R&D laboratory, chemical storage area, and pilot coater area.
- Understand and follow all safety and equipment operating procedures.
- Follow the handling, storage, and disposal of materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Execute R&D project work as assigned by R&D management.
- Ability to execute experiments as directed by R&D scientists & engineers.
- Maintain clean, orderly working conditions in laboratory areas.
- Maintain records of laboratory test results and experimental observations.
- Conduct testing using test equipment and document data.
- Provide testing, analytical, and pilot process support for R&D scientists by operating pilot equipment and testing instruments.
- Assist R&D scientists & engineers by supervising trial runs.
- Conduct minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
- Operate delicate analytical equipment.
- Associates degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in product development and/or laboratory testing.
- Knowledge and experience with the coating process and equipment preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office to perform data entry processes and document work results.
- Good mechanical skills, ability to work with equipment and troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Ability to work effectively independently and with co-workers and supervisors; team player and self-motivated.
- Good math skills including basic algebraic formulas and statistics principles.
- Sitting/standing for extended periods
- Typing
- Some lifting, up to 60 pounds
- Manual dexterity for completion of technical tasks
