Supervises and participates in the day‑to‑day operations of the Family Store and warehouse, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; maintains custody and security of cashier funds; keeps store merchandise neat, attractive, and well stocked; assists customers and employees; assumes the responsibilities of the Family Store Manager as needed.
Responsibilities- Assist the Family Store Manager in supervising daily operations of the Family Store and warehouse area.
- Train and instruct employees in proper methods, procedures, and company policies.
- Monitor work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies.
- Supervise cashier activities, ensuring courteous customer service and accurate recording of sales.
- Assist Store Clerks with ringing up, recording, and receipting sales; resolve personnel and customer issues.
- Ensure security and accountability of cashier funds; prepare daily sales reports and bank deposits.
- Maintain compliance with Guide to Family Store & Donation Centers Operations manual and all Salvation Army policies.
- Assist customers in locating items, pricing, and donating items; explain store policy.
- Maintain store displays—arrange, rotate, and restock—so they remain plentiful, neat, and orderly.
- Set appropriate prices for merchandise to achieve quick turnover while delivering fair value to The Salvation Army; reduce prices for slow‑moving items.
- Supervise unloading of donations, sorting, stocking, and discarding as per policies; inspect and assist with repair work for appliances and furniture.
- Supervise and assist with clothing repair and bailing of items.
- Prepare, maintain, and file store reports, records, and forms, including community service records.
- Assume additional responsibilities during the absence of the Family Store Manager or Warehouse Supervisor.
- Perform tasks of Store Clerk and Warehouse Worker as needed.
- Receive and interview job applications when required.
- Execute special projects and other related work as requested.
- Cash register, bailer, price gun.
- Calculator, handheld tools, cleaning products.
- High‑school diploma or G.E.D.
- At least one year of retail store experience, preferably at a Salvation Army Family Store, with supervisory exposure.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- None.
- Meet attendance requirements.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Operate a cash register.
- Perform routine mathematical calculations and count change.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Walk, stand, kneel, or squat frequently, with relief by sitting or vehicle operation as needed.
- Normal store environment with minimal weather impact.
- Warehouse environment with noise, dust, dirt, and weather‑related discomfort.
