Description

Mobile Fleet Equipment Service Technician

This position is responsible for providing a wide range of technical services on company trucks, off‑road construction equipment, trailers, and other equipment as required. This is a mechanical position that requires significant technical training and/or experience.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Performs thorough and accurate preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Performs unscheduled repairs as needed.
  • Performs complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests using manuals, drawings, specifications, and other technical materials.
  • Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately utilizing Fleetio and other computer software as required.
  • Must be familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance and understand OSHA/ANSI/DOT standards and provisions.
  • Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances.
  • Performs any and all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to:
    • operate and service all required tools and equipment (e.g., bucket truck, line truck, boring machines, back hoes, track hoes, pick‑up trucks, etc.)
    • work with hazardous tools, i.e., welding torches.
    • work around moving equipment and constricted spaces.
  • Possess own mechanical hand tools.
  • Willing and able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work).
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized vehicle and equipment repair course.
  • Knowledge or Distribution Electrical Construction Equipment Preferred
  • At least three years’ experience as a mechanic in an automotive, trucking or heavy equipment environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Pre‑Screen
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.
License & Certifications
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License and DOT Physical or be able to attain each within 3 months of hire.
Travel Requirements
  • Must be willing to travel in and out of state for emergency storm work or storm preparation.
Physical Requirements
  • RARE (less than 10%): walking, sitting, climbing poles, climbing ladders, climbing stairs.
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): kneeling, crawling, speaking clearly, hearing‑speech range, color vision, carrying, pushing, pulling.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, stooping, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, seeing distant, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, range of motion, depth perception, balancing, kneeling, crawling, climbing on/off truck, reading.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): seeing, lifting, lifting up to 10 lbs.
Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8‑ or 10‑hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
