Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Role Description

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic role at Hilton Inc. is a full-time, on-site position based in Hickory, NC. The mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles used in commercial grading and construction, including loaders, excavators, bulldozers, trucks, and related machinery. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine maintenance, identifying mechanical and hydraulic issues, conducting troubleshooting and testing, and completing accurate maintenance records.

The role also involves coordinating with supervisors and equipment operators to schedule repairs, prioritize safety, and minimize downtime on job sites. The mechanic will help maintain a safe, organized shop environment and may assist with parts sourcing and vendor coordination when necessary.

• Strong skills in Equipment Maintenance and Vehicle Maintenance to perform routine inspections, servicing, and preventive care.
• Hands-on experience with Equipment Repair and Heavy Equipment systems, including hydraulics, electrical, and diesel engines.
• Proficient Troubleshooting abilities to diagnose mechanical issues efficiently and recommend effective repair solutions.
• Prior experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic in construction or related industries is highly beneficial.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, technical diagrams, and repair documentation.
• Commitment to safety practices and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Physical ability to lift heavy components, work in outdoor job site conditions, and stand for extended periods.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field is a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with operators, supervisors, and other team members.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the Hickory, NC worksite; CDL is an advantage.
