Responsibilities- Work directly for the Hickory Police Department, assigned to the Support Services Division as an unarmed uniformed security aide to assist in securing assigned areas throughout the City of Hickory. Areas may include parks and trail systems, the Downtown Social District, Hickory City Walk and Book Walk, Hickory River Walk, and assist staff at the Arts and Science Center.
- Conduct security checks of assigned locations on foot, by bicycle, or in a motor vehicle to ensure the safety and security of citizens, personnel, and property.
- Make reports to the proper authority when a situation arises and maintain radio communications with the Hickory Police Department Communications Center; file all necessary reports as required by the department.
- Make some electronic reports via computer and demonstrate basic computer skills.
- Communicate with the general public in a face-to-face setting to give directions and answer inquiries; communicate with internal staff by face-to-face, telephone, or portable radio to receive instructions and information regarding daily duties.

- Must be at least 18 years old and currently working on completing a high school diploma.
- Must be accepted to participate in the Apprenticeship NC program through the North Carolina Community Colleges System, specifically through the Catawba Apprenticeship Network at Catawba Valley Community College.
- Must have a valid Class "C" driver's license.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony and must undergo a thorough background investigation.
- Must be able to work part-time duty hours that may vary as scheduled.

Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily performed while standing and walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
SAFETY SENSITIVE: This position has been identified as safety-sensitive. The employee in this position will be part of a random drug testing pool. The methodology for choosing the random test subjects is handled by an outside, impartial, third party vendor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside where the employee may be exposed to cold or inclement weather.
