Job DescriptionJOB TITLE: Bus Monitor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
BENEFITS STATUS: Part Time No Benefits, 2 Hours/Day (Monday-Thursday/10:30-11:45)
SALARY (Hourly): $15.00
Under general supervision, work performed includes but is not limited to riding a bus as a monitor safely to destination and return; following school district procedures when riding assigned buses; and monitoring students' behavior while they are riding on the bus.

Essential Job FunctionsMonitor student behavior on the bus safely to destination and return. Follows school district regulations for servicing EC students.
Monitor students' behavior while they are riding on the bus. Take suitable action to resolve incidents between/among students should such incidents occur and report inappropriate student behavior to school authorities as soon as possible. Adhere to all EC related policies and procedures.
Safety of Others. Considerable responsibility for the safe transportation of students.
Minimum Training and ExperienceGraduation from high school. Must be trained on how to use the EC bus lift, be proficient on securing EC passengers which includes the use of integrated seating, harnesses, and wheelchairs.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsInterpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Must be courteous and respectful of coworkers and customers.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear. Employees should wear all prescription glasses and hearing aids when necessary to perform work assignments in a safe atmosphere.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to attend to students on a moving school bus. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Requires the ability to receive instructions, assignments or directions from superiors. Requires the ability to work cooperatively with coworkers to complete group tasks and to serve students' and parents' needs.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and understand a variety of correspondence, menus, recipes, work schedule and food production sheets, etc. Requires the ability to prepare simple reports, logs, and lists. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, self-control, and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in the operation of a school bus. Requires the ability to use two hands.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of safe bus operations.
Administrative skills to implement established policies and procedures regarding student transportation, enforcing rules of student conduct and discipline.
Communication skills in dealing with students daily; communicating with parents regarding discipline problems.
Leadership skills to maintain discipline on the bus.
Manual skills to maintain bus cleanliness.
Planning skills to develop student seating arrangements.
