Job Description

Pedestrian Inspector for DDC Project in Staten Island, New York.

Position Overview

As a Pedestrian Inspector for the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) project in Staten Island, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety and compliance of pedestrian facilities during the construction phase of the project. You will work closely with contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that pedestrian infrastructure is constructed according to established guidelines and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspection and Compliance: conduct regular inspections of pedestrian infrastructure, such as sidewalks, crosswalks, ramps, and pedestrian signals to ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant codes, and accessibility standards.
  • Verify that construction activities adhere to approved plans, design requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Identify and document any deviations, deficiencies, or safety hazards, and promptly communicate them to the project team for corrective action.
  • Collaborate with contractors and project staff to address compliance issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Documentation and Reporting: maintain accurate records of inspection findings, including photographs, measurements, and detailed reports.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports to the project manager, highlighting observations, recommendations, and corrective actions taken.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and contribute to the overall project documentation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: collaborate effectively with the project team, including engineers, designers, and construction personnel, to ensure a coordinated approach to pedestrian infrastructure inspections.
  • Attend project meetings to provide updates on inspection activities, discuss any issues or concerns, and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, such as local authorities, community members, and the public, to address inquiries, complaints, or feedback related to pedestrian facilities.
  • Quality Control: participate in quality control activities by conducting field measurements, material tests, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitor the construction process to ensure compliance with relevant quality standards and specifications.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest modifications to enhance the quality and functionality of pedestrian facilities.

    adhere to strict safety protocols and promote a culture of safety on the construction site.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
  • Report any safety incidents or violations to the project manager and assist in the investigation of accidents or near-miss occurrences.
Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certification in construction, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in construction inspection, preferably with a focus on pedestrian facilities or infrastructure projects.
  • ACI, OSHA 30, and Field Concrete Technician certifications.
  • Familiarity with construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify defects or deviations from design requirements.
  • Proficient in using inspection tools, equipment, and software for documenting and reporting findings.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with project team members, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to promote a safe working environment.
