Job Overview- Support immediate business needs and help manage current workload demands.
- Support procurement initiatives, RFP activities, and other business and project-related efforts.
- Have experience managing projects, preferably related to resource procurement within the power generation industry.
- Strongly preferred engineering background with experience overseeing projects involving energy resources, generation, and transmission systems.
- The ideal candidate will possess a combination of:
- Technical knowledge of power generation and transmission
- Familiarity with ISO-related provisions and requirements
- Project management experience
- Engineering expertise (secondary engineering knowledge is a plus)
- Preferred Industry Experience
- Power generation experience is highly preferred.
- Understand how power plants operate and have solid knowledge of generation assets and energy capacity.
- Experience supporting generation-related procurement projects is strongly desired.
- Procurement & Commercial Experience
- Focus on procurement activities supporting power generation projects.
- Manage and support RFP/RFQ processes and contribute with minimal training.
- Commercial and procurement experience important, including:
- Contract negotiations
- Vendor/supplier management
- Financial and commercial evaluation of proposals
- Providing input on contract terms and commercial considerations (role not responsible for drafting contracts)
- Preferred Backgrounds
- Engineering professionals with procurement experience.
- Procurement professionals or suppliers supporting power generation projects.
- Experience with large-scale generation procurements, such as steam turbines and other generation equipment, is highly desirable.
- Tools & Software
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Power Advocate is a plus.
- Additional Notes
- This is a newly created position intended to provide additional support for existing workload demands.
- "Resource" in this context refers to energy capacity and generation-related resources.
- Assist and coordinate development of RFPs for generation and transmission, direct evaluations of proposals, and prepare recommendations to senior management and LIPA for selection, covering renewable and/or non-renewable resources such as Offshore Wind, Solar, Fuel Cells, Energy Storage and Smart Grid REV, as well as conventional generation.
- Ensure ongoing continuous improvement with application of complex LSS tools and comprehensive stakeholder communication and management plan; possess in-depth knowledge of regulatory and policy aspects.
- Provide technical advice and guidance in procurement of new power generation and transmission resources and development of power purchase agreements, easements, etc.
- Understand costs and technical details of both renewable and conventional generation technologies, including various interconnection schemes.
- Know the RFP process for LIPA, diligently document procurement process to ensure approval of PPAs and understand legal perspectives associated with procurements, commercial contracts, and key decisions such as selection or rejection of awards, evaluations, performance determination, price negotiations, cancellation or modification of contracts.
- Assist in development of strategy for New York State CLCPA implementation, Clean Energy Standard compliance, and implementation of projects to comply with FERC, NERC, NYISO and New York State policy and regulatory mandates.
- Provide end-to-end assistance for project development to contracted resource projects; require knowledge of project management function and understanding of political and community issues, permitting processes, regulatory developments and requirements, core project management and coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Project management and contract management experience.
- Good knowledge of handling and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Understanding of T&D system and generation aspects.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, leadership skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required (desired electrical).
- Hybrid; 3-4 days working from office; hiring manager can change schedule based on business needs.
