Monday–Thursday, 11:00 PM–7:30 AM, and Saturdays, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM. Hours may vary based on business needs.

Sigma Inc. is currently hiring a 3rd Shift Sanitation Worker for a valued client in Hicksville, NY
. This position is based in a food manufacturing environment producing butter and other food products.

This is not a traditional janitorial position
. The role involves physically demanding, hands‑on sanitation work requiring employees to dismantle and reassemble food‑processing equipment, clean large kettles and piping systems, operate power washers, and safely handle cleaning chemicals and PPE.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize food-processing equipment and facility areas as directed by the supervisor
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment and piping systems as required for sanitation
  • Thoroughly clean large processing kettles, filling equipment, and related systems
  • Use power washers and cleaning chemicals while following all safety procedures
  • Follow SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Properly handle chemicals and follow required dilution factors
  • Become familiar with CIP (Clean-in-Place) operations and milk silo cleaning
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and sanitation-related issues
  • Maintain sanitation records, master sanitation paperwork, and daily documentation
  • Provide technical direction or training to other sanitarians as applicable
  • Fill in for other departmental absences when needed
  • Stay current with required safety training and proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards required for food manufacturing and quality assurance
Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding, hands‑on sanitation work for an entire shift
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable dismantling and reassembling equipment
  • Ability to read and understand sanitation procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets)
  • Ability to safely work with cleaning chemicals and PPE
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Ability to stand and work for the entire shift
  • Ability to work in a production environment with typical manufacturing noise
  • Ability to occasionally work in hot and cold temperatures
  • Must have and wear steel-toed shoes
  • Must be fluent in and able to read and write in English or Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous sanitation experience in a food manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience with CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems
  • Experience cleaning processing kettles, silos, or food‑processing equipment
  • Experience working with industrial cleaning chemicals and power washers
  • Mechanical or equipment maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with sanitation documentation and procedures
Important Notes:
  • This is an arduous, tedious, task‑oriented position
    , not a standard janitorial role.
  • Employees will be required to use significant physical effort to scrub and clean large kettles and processing equipment.
  • Kettles can be approximately the size of hot tubs, and employees may need to stand over them while cleaning.
  • Employees will work with water, chemicals, power washers, protective boots, and other required PPE.
  • Quality Assurance may conduct inspections and swab equipment to verify that all traces of product have been removed.
  • Once fully trained, employees are expected to clean a kettle in approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes
    .
  • Standing, lifting, bending, equipment disassembly/reassembly, and repetitive cleaning are regular parts of the job.
  • Hours are subject to business needs.

  • Temperature: Hot/cold environments occasionally
  • Noise: Typical production/manufacturing environment throughout the shift
  • PPE: Required, including appropriate protective equipment and steel‑toed shoes
