Sigma, Inc. is seeking a Quality Assurance (QA) Technician for a 3-month contract opportunity in Hicksville, NY. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in quality assurance, quality control, food manufacturing, laboratory testing, GMP, HACCP, food safety, microbiology, production, or manufacturing environments.
As a Quality Assurance Technician, you will ensure products meet company quality standards by performing inspections, laboratory testing, documentation, and food safety compliance activities throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities Milk Receiving- Complete receiving documentation and quality records.
- Collect product samples for laboratory testing.
- Perform temperature checks.
- Conduct butterfat, acidity, and pH testing.
- Perform organoleptic (sensory) evaluations.
- Review production paperwork.
- Perform temperature, salt, Brix, pH, and viscosity testing.
- Release kettles using RS View.
- Conduct sensory evaluations.
- Verify production documentation.
- Perform temperature checks.
- Verify metal detector and X-ray systems.
- Conduct seal integrity testing.
- Verify product codes and package weights.
- Collect retain samples.
- Verify packaging documentation.
- Inspect labels, packaging, and product codes.
- Evaluate packaging quality.
- Conduct sensory evaluations.
- Collect water and environmental samples.
- Perform Listeria monitoring.
- Plate and incubate microbiological samples.
- Conduct laboratory testing for milk, eggs, environmental, and shelf-life samples.
- Complete inspection documentation.
- Perform ATP and allergen swabbing.
- Verify magnets and cooler conditions.
- Check sanitizer concentrations.
- Ensure equipment is clean, sanitized, and production-ready.
- Previous experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Manufacturing, Laboratory Testing, or Manufacturing preferred.
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and food safety procedures.
- Understanding of HACCP and quality systems is a plus.
- Ability to perform inspections, testing, and documentation accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to understand science-based materials.
- Basic algebra and math skills required.
- Willingness to work extended shifts and weekends when needed.
- Strong communication skills with production associates, supervisors, and management.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to determine when products should be placed on hold based on quality specifications.
- Ability to instruct employees on GMP and food safety violations.
- Experience using laboratory equipment and quality inspection tools.
- Stand for the majority of the shift.
- Work in a manufacturing environment with typical production noise.
- Climb ladders or platforms up to 8 feet.
- Work in both hot and cold production environments.
- Wear required PPE, including steel-toe shoes.
