Job Description

Job Description – Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Inspector / Laboratory Technician to support construction materials testing and quality assurance for infrastructure and building projects. This role combines field inspection duties with laboratory operations to ensure materials and construction activities comply with project specifications, applicable building codes, ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, IAS, CCRL, and company quality management standards.

The successful candidate will perform field inspections, conduct laboratory testing of construction materials, maintain testing equipment, manage laboratory inventory, and prepare accurate reports. This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Job Functions
Field Inspection
  • Perform field inspections of construction materials and activities to verify compliance with project specifications, approved plans, and applicable standards.
  • Collect field samples of concrete, masonry, soil, asphalt, and aggregate materials for laboratory testing.
  • Document inspection findings and prepare daily field reports with supporting photographs and documentation.
  • Communicate inspection results and observations with project managers, contractors, and engineering staff.
  • Identify and report non-conforming materials or construction practices.
Laboratory Testing
  • Perform laboratory testing of concrete, masonry, soil, asphalt, and aggregate materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards.
  • Conduct concrete and masonry compressive strength testing ("breaks") and other required laboratory tests.
  • Receive, label, cure, and track material samples.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, testing logs, and quality documentation.
  • Prepare laboratory reports and submit results in a timely manner.
Laboratory Operations
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and verification of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, and testing materials.
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with quality management procedures.
  • Support laboratory accreditation requirements, including IAS, CCRL, and AASHTO quality standards.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain compliance with company safety policies.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction materials testing, laboratory operations, or construction inspection preferred.
  • Experience working in a construction materials testing laboratory is highly desirable.
  • Ability to perform both field and laboratory work in varying environmental conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet testing schedules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Skills & Certification Requirements
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of concrete, masonry, soil, asphalt, and aggregate laboratory testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, TMS, IAS, and CCRL standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience operating, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Strong documentation, recordkeeping, and report preparation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory reporting software.
  • Commitment to quality assurance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in both laboratory and field environments.

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Grade I
