Individual must meet the health needs of the children and families in Head Start, and must also initiate and coordinate activities to help enhance the parental role as the influence in the child's health education and development.
Will be responsible for monitoring all health related center activities assuring proper documentation for services provided to each child.
Will also be responsible for children's health records and monthly monitoring of centers under the direction of the Health Director.
Examples of Work Performed
Collaborates with Director of Health Services to implement health content area strategies for goal attainment.
Conducts and evaluates the goals and activities designed to implement the health content area objectives and Performance Standards.
Provides support, technical assistance to the center managers, facilitators, and support service facilitators in the design and implementation of the health content area.
Monitors and ensures all parental consent forms are signed and in place prior to screens and needed health services.
Collects any available materials and resources for use in the health related content area.
Assists the medical assistant with screening the children as specified in the Head Start Performance Standards and TDHS Child Care Minimum Standards.
Assists and maintains current health records for Head Start children for entry and complete necessary federal forms (includes immunizations and screening).
Monitors emergency medical care, safety, fire prevention, and sanitary measures for children and staff on a monthly basis.
Conducts educative parent meeting in the health content area.
Assists in identifying children with special needs (e.g.: hearing, vision, etc.).
Complies with all health related state, federal, and local policies.
Informs parents/center managers of appointments and arrange on follow-up care.
Promotes environmental health and safety practices at assigned centers.
Work cooperatively with other staff members.
Insures prevention and early identification of problems that may interfere with child
development.
Supervises record-keeping tasks involved in the health content area by maintaining documentation on a monthly basis in preparation for the Program Information Report (PIR).
Is responsible for setting up clinics for physical and dental examination.
Must attend all trainings deemed necessary by Executive Director to comply with TDFPS Child Care Minimum Standards and Performance Standards during the summer months.
Must adhere to and maintain the obligations as described in the Confidentiality Policies of the Agency.
Must comply with Program Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Education and Experience
Individual must be a Licensed Vocational Nurse with three (3) years or more experience in health services, preferably in a Head Start Program or child development program state, local, or federal agency.
Must be a certified instructor in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid.
Maintain certification in CPR, vision, and hearing screening. Must maintain a current license as a Vocational Nurse in the state of Texas.
Maintain behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
Must have knowledge of community resources for low-income families.
Must have initiative and be able to relate to both administrations and programmatic staff.
Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Individual must posses' strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skill.
Must have and automobile, valid Texas driver's license and current liability insurance for work related travel.
