Construction Accountant

We are working with an excellent construction company in Greensboro and we are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Accountant to support the financial operations of construction projects. This role is responsible for managing project-based accounting, including job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting, while partnering with project managers to ensure projects stay on budget and financially on track.

• Manage full-cycle accounting for construction projects, including AP, AR, and general ledger
• Perform job costing and project cost tracking for labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
• Develop and monitor project budgets and analyze variances against actual costs
• Prepare monthly financial statements, WIP schedules, and project profitability reports
• Process and review invoices, pay applications, and vendor/subcontractor payments
• Collaborate with project managers to evaluate financial performance and forecasts
• Perform bank and account reconciliations and support month-end close
• Maintain accurate financial records for audits, compliance, and tax reporting
• Monitor cash flow and billing cycles to ensure timely collections
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and financial risks within projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based accounting
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP (work-in-progress), and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Proficiency in accounting software – Sage preferred
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
• Understanding of construction processes, contracts, and billing practices
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
