Senior Cost Accountant

Compensation: Up to $95,000 base, depending on experience

We are recruiting for a Senior Cost Accountant opportunity with an established, well-known manufacturing company with strong brand recognition, long-term stability, and continued growth.

This role can sit in either the Greensboro, NC metro area or the Kingsport, TN metro area
. Candidates do not need to be local.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates who are open to relocating to either market.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong manufacturing cost accounting experience who enjoys working closely with operations, finance, supply chain, and plant leadership. The role will focus heavily on standard costing, inventory, COGS, variance analysis, BOMs, routings, cycle counts, month-end close, reconciliations, and plant accounting support
.

This is not a basic corporate accounting role. This is a true manufacturing finance position where your work will directly impact inventory accuracy, cost visibility, operational decision-making, and plant performance.

• Support monthly and quarterly cost accounting close activities for manufacturing operations.
• Prepare and analyze standard costs, product costs, inventory costs, and cost of goods sold.
• Review and analyze manufacturing variances, including material, labor, overhead, usage, absorption, and purchase price variances.
• Support annual standard cost updates, including labor rates, overhead rates, BOMs, routings, and inventory cost reviews.
• Partner with operations, supply chain, production, and finance leadership to explain cost drivers and provide useful financial analysis.
• Prepare inventory-related general ledger reconciliations and assist with month-end close.
• Support physical inventory, cycle count processes, inventory adjustments, and inventory control procedures.
• Analyze inventory balances, slow-moving inventory, reserves, and manufacturing cost trends.
• Assist with costing and financial analysis for new products, product changes, and operational projects.
• Prepare audit documentation and support internal and external audit requests.
• Help develop, improve, and monitor accounting policies and procedures related to inventory and standard costing.
• Provide financial insight to management to support better business decisions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of manufacturing cost accounting experience preferred.
• Strong experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, COGS, variance analysis, and month-end close.
• Hands-on knowledge of BOMs, routings, labor rates, overhead rates, PPV, cycle counts, and physical inventory.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, plant accounting, or operations finance environment.
• Strong Excel skills and ERP system experience.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, production, and finance teams.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• CPA or CMA certification, or interest in pursuing CPA/CMA, is a plus.
