Compensation Range: $18.05 - $23.13

The Police Records Support I maintains the records filing system and/or database used to manage, access, and preserve electronic and paper records of criminal justice activities. This position also assists in providing clear and accurate information to the public and other departments. Staff in this position may also perform other clerical duties, assisting officers with information and answering the telephone.

Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Review and type various reports;
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews of all reports created;
  • Answers in-coming telephone calls, routes to appropriate persons or personally responds to inquiries or takes messages;
  • Greets and responds to various inquiries from members of the general public;
  • Reviews daily work output of officers for quality and accuracy of coding and data entry;
  • Submits all state and federal reporting of crime statistics;
  • Conducts necessary courier duties to and from the court and city hall;
  • Calls complainants to validate NCIC entries for stolen property and missing persons per NCIC regulations;
  • Completes basic accounting reports as it relates to statistics;
  • Operates standard office equipment including computer and related software, copier and fax machine;
  • Interprets and applies policies, regulations and procedures;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess good oral and legible written communication and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft office products
  • Valid NC driver's license

Preferred Skills :

  • English and Spanish language proficiency
  • Experience in police records clerical work, including experience with online data processing systems

Physical Requirements:

Hearing/Speaking
- Expressing and/or receiving information by means of the spoken word is both necessary to converse with internal and external customers, including co-workers, citizens, and applicants.

Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:

  • Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Both eyes 20/22 - R 20/25 - L 20/25 corrected. Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Both eyes 20/25 corrected.
  • Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Depth Perception - 4
  • Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span of area.
  • Accommodation – Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye.
  • Color Vision
    - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
