About UsThe NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work Reporting to the Administrative department, this is a mission critical position which performs a variety of office and/or technical tasks, to accomplish the specialized processing of information, documents, and/or materials. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Ensuring the efficient and timely processing of offender and staff mail in compliance with established policies and procedures, including packaging materials for shipping, handling heavy packages and parcel posts.

- Processing and logging all incoming and outgoing mail, receiving incoming shipments of supplies, materials, and equipment, operating a state vehicle, and communicating both orally and in writing with offenders, staff, government officials, management, and the general public.

- Receiving telephone calls from other staff, department personnel, community volunteers, citizens, press, offenders’ attorneys and families, and other agencies regarding mail.

- Working independently and under general supervision with routine evaluation of job performance.

- Delivering and picking up US Mail, Interoffice mail, and Courier mail on a scheduled basis including being outside to deliver and retrieve mail in inclement weather conditions.

- Operating a computer to include Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word).

- Lifting, pulling, and pushing more than 10 pounds to move large bins of mail and/or packages.

/Management Preferences Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249

The salary grade for this position is NC02 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
