It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director I at a medium custody male correctional facility and must be able to work under stressful conditions to meet daily/monthly deadlines.
Responsibilities- Working closely with population management to facilitate the transfer of offenders in and out of the facility
- Maintaining offender field jackets and coordinating trips, transfers, and the backlogging of offenders
- Maintaining files and records effectively according to departmental policy allowing for quick, easy access, and retrieval of requested information.
- Composing memorandums and letters with limited or no instruction. Proofreading documents for spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Entering and comprehending computer generated data and reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy and integrity of information
- Receiving and processing sectional mail
- Maintaining confidentiality and working well independently in close proximity to other staff
- Compiling data from a variety of sources and reports.

Salary Range: $41,206 - $72,113

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
