The City of High Point is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Officer to join our team. Reporting to the Risk Manager, this role plays a key part in advancing the City's enterprise risk management initiatives and strengthening a culture of safety and compliance across all departments.
The Safety Officer is instrumental in protecting our workforce, promoting workplace wellness, and proactively identifying and mitigating risk. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs that align with OSHA standards and City policies, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment for all employees.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Design, schedule, and facilitate engaging safety training sessions and workshops on OSHA regulations and other safety-related topics for employees at all levels.
* Develop and deliver customized safety presentations tailored to the needs of diverse departments and job functions.
* Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and regulations by maintaining current knowledge of applicable requirements and best practices.
* Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, document compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
* Oversee the annual facility inspection process, ensuring all identified abatements are completed and properly documented.
* Prepare and submit required OSHA documentation, reports, and incident logs in a timely and accurate manner.
* Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures aligned with legal and organizational standards.
* Investigate and refer general liability, property, and workers' compensation claims to the City's Third-Party Administrator or insurer.
* Coordinate and lead scheduled fire drills to ensure preparedness and compliance.
* Maintain a comprehensive and organized safety recordkeeping system.
* Review and assist in updating safety education and training curriculum.
* Lead initiatives that promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring employees are informed, engaged, and accountable.
* Investigate reports of unsafe working conditions and potential OSHA violations; communicate findings and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
* Investigate and review employee injuries/incidents and vehicle or equipment-related incidents to determine root cause and implement preventive measures.
* Support the motor vehicle accident prevention program by investigating and analyzing accident causes.
* Assist in coordinating or completing accident reconstruction efforts with third-party vendors, as needed.
* Compile detailed reports and collaborate with department leaders to strengthen workplace safety practices.
