Title:

Preschool Teacher

Line of Authority:
The Preschool Children’s Teacher will be directly responsible to the Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Hours:

This is a part–time salaried position. The school year runs from September to May annually. Daily hours are Monday – Thursday, 8:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or until the last child has been picked up by a parent or guardian.

Pay:
The pay for this position will fluctuate based on the Preschool enrollment. The salary is computed as the total monthly tuition minus fifteen percent, which is given to the church to assist with church utilities. The teacher will be paid at the end of each month during the school year.

Experience:

Experience in interaction with pre‑school age children, ability to clearly articulate assignments and motivate students, a basic understanding of Christian religious principles, and a warm, nurturing love of children is a must. Certification in Early Childhood Education is preferred.

Position Details / Responsibilities
  • Provide a warm, caring, and spiritually based classroom environment for the nurturing and growth of preschool‑aged children.
  • Prepare classroom materials and lesson plans appropriate for preschool‑aged children.
  • Ensure all classroom daily materials are prepared prior to class and that the classroom is clean and orderly at the end of each day prior to leaving.
  • Assure that all preschool activities are conducted in a safe and secure environment.
  • Collect tuition monthly and turn it in to the Administrative Assistant.
  • Make sure that the classroom, equipment, and supplies are in good repair. Classroom supplies shall be kept clean, well‑stocked, and care shall be taken to eliminate waste.
  • Receive Safe Sanctuary, AED/CPR training.
  • Inform the Administrative Assistant when repairs are needed to the classroom.

We encourage the Preschool Teacher to be as active as is reasonable (time-wise) in the overall life of our church community.

Terms:

In the event of an emergency, the preschool teacher shall be afforded the time deemed necessary. An employee’s resignation requires a thirty‑day written notice to the Pastor.

Performance Review:
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is expected to meet annually with the Preschool Teacher for a staff review after an initial three‑month review and, if applicable, a six‑month review. The SPRC is the responsible body for evaluating, assisting, advising, and counseling the Preschool Teacher in the performance of the stated duties. Also, the SPRC reviews staff salaries and benefits annually.

Likewise, if the Preschool Teacher has issues or concerns, they should raise them with the SPRC.

Background Check: A background check will be completed for anyone working at Raefod UMC (RUMC).

RUMC Preschool Protocols

The only children allowed in the Preschool Room during school hours are those who are enrolled in the Preschool.

To be enrolled in the Preschool, a child must be at least 2.5 years of age and potty‑trained.

Monthly tuition is due by the 7th of each month.

The RUMC Finance Committee will serve as the approval authority for setting registration, snack, and monthly tuition fees.

The RUMC SPRC will approve the yearly school calendar.

In cases when the teacher needs to be absent, the teacher will secure a substitute from the approved list of subs with a background check or reschedule the class for that day. Notification must be given to the RUMC office.

Receipts for reimbursement of school supplies shall be submitted to the Administrative Assistant on a quarterly basis.
