This Historic Site Manager III is responsible for the overall leadership and development of the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville, North Carolina. This position works a Monday‑Friday schedule and may require occasional night or weekend work.
Management Preferences- Experience supervising a staff of at least 3 people
- Experience working with non‑profit boards and fundraising organizations
- Experience developing relationships with community stakeholders
- Experience with living history demonstration best practices
- Experience planning and developing educational programs
- Oversee all interpretive and maintenance staff at Fort Dobbs State Historic Site
- Supervise budget, payroll, and purchasing of supplies and materials
- Establish mission‑based site goals through strategic planning and community outreach
- Conduct tours and interpretive demonstrations as part of visitor services
- Oversee development and public operations of Shallow Ford State Historic Site in Lewisville, NC
Bachelor’s degree in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment from an appropriately accredited institution, AND two years of experience in managing the operation of a historic site, in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
