Job DescriptionAIS is seeking certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in Raleigh Durham, North Carolina, to join our team of independent contractors. TVIs work itinerantly in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with visual impairments and blindness. Both part-time and full-time opportunities are available.
The TVI functions as a member of the student’s educational team, providing comprehensive assessments and services to school-aged students. They assist in developing and implementing IEPs tailored to visual impairments. Candidates must have a working knowledge of assessment and instructional practices, evidence-based research, recommended best practices, available low- and high-tech AT, and the roles and responsibilities of a TVI within a school setting.
Qualifications- Must hold a Professional License in visual impairment
- Preferred experience as a TVI
- Knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
- Experience writing and implementing IEPs and 504 plans
- Experience conducting FVALMA assessments and providing recommendations
- Knowledge of Braille and low vision skills
- Experience consulting and training teachers and service providers on visual impairments
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills
- Understanding of various disabilities, especially visual impairments
- Ability to recognize and respond to individual student differences
- Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, colleagues, and service providers
