This position is assigned to the North Carolina Justice Academy Training Division and is responsible for researching, developing, and creating law enforcement related materials. This position can be located at either campus location:
Salemburg or Edneyville, North Carolina. The location of the position will be based on the proximity of the selected candidate.
This position will be responsible for content development, lesson plan revision and curriculum maintenance. There will also be instructional duties or teaching assignments. This position may be cross trained for multiple disciplines or topical areas. Candidates may be required, based on operational needs, to obtain and maintain additional Commission instructor certifications beyond the primary discipline. The Academy supports cross certification to enhance instructional capability and program delivery.
The position will be assigned to one of four instruction work teams and will be required to perform a portion of the preceding organizational duties, including coordinating – and instructing in – basic, advanced, and specialized criminal justice training curricula using an Instructional System Design model of analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation phases, which may consist of creating both traditional and e-learning courses that may include annual in-service training, or other training as assigned.
In addition, the position will also be responsible for providing technical assistance in assigned content areas upon request from criminal justice personnel regarding operational policies and procedures and developing advanced and specialized criminal justice training materials that will include curricula, hypermedia, and other audiovisual materials.
This position may/will additionally be responsible for providing training or acting as supplemental trainer for other subject areas offered by the North Carolina Justice Academy, including but not limited to Academy based courses, Commission-mandated courses and Mandatory In-service Training Courses.
The position ensures that the appearance, organization and functionality of e-learning meets North Carolina Department of Justice standards. This position is also responsible for review, proofreading and editing new and existing lesson plans as part of the development and content process.
Travel is required, including overnight stays. The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville and Salemburg) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including: anti-terrorism, community-oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision. Additionally, the Academy provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
