Adjunct Instructor – Cosmetology (Wilkes Campus)

Location: Wilkes Campus, part-time adjunct position. Weekend and evening work may be required.

• Teach courses in the cosmetology program, including basic and advanced hairstyling, salon management, cosmetician science, nail technology, esthetics, instructor training, and fashion concepts.
• Model student expectations: effective communication, dependability, critical thinking, positive customer service, and leadership.
• Assist the coordinator with salon retail operations related to the instructional cosmetology lab, including handling payment transactions, making deposits, and managing supplies and products.
• Enforce safety and NC Board of Cosmetic Arts regulations.
• Support the college’s commitment to enhancing student learning by increasing student disposition to use critical thinking skills via professional development activities.
• Facilitate a scheduled theory class and safety and infection control instruction.
• Provide practical demonstration and instruction.
• Manage student records: practice area completion, grades/evaluations, and attendance.
• Maintain a secure testing environment and supply and equipment inventory.
• Travel to local high schools/community events to conduct presentations about the program.
• Facilitate high school theory, practice, and evaluations.
• Evaluate the learning progress of students.
• Contribute to curriculum improvements.
• Help coordinator with State Board test instruction and mock testing.
• Ensure all procedures are completed safely according to evaluation plan.
• Keep a clean working environment.
• Attend professional development activities as scheduled by the coordinator.
• Maintain current knowledge of NC Board of Cosmetic Arts rules and regulations.

• Current North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts license.
• Instructor license by NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners (visit  for more information).

• At least 2 years experience as a licensed cosmetologist.
• Previous classroom teaching experience.

• Position requires lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate, ability to sit and/or stand for long periods, ability to move between classrooms, buildings, and campuses, and good eye/hand dexterity.
• Light work:
  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force, frequently carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds; walking, standing, and sitting with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
• Mental application:
  Utilizes memory for details and content of discipline, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem‑solving skills are important.

Salary: $15 per hour for courses other than instructor courses, $26.38 per hour for courses requiring an Associate’s degree.
