Position Summary
The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the top-ranked Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time, fixed-term faculty position in health policy and management. Rank:
Assistant or Associate professor based on qualifications and experience. This appointment is a full-time 12-month teaching faculty position.
We are seeking an enthusiastic participant in the HPM Department community who can teach a range of health policy and management courses in undergraduate or graduate programs, including the following areas:
- U.S. Healthcare System and Policy
- Healthcare Strategy
- Policy Practice (advocacy, design, and implementation)
- Management
- Organizational Behavior
- Quality Improvement
- Information Management
- Human Resources
- Masters' degree culminating experiences (MHA Capstone, MPH Integrative Learning Experience (ILE))
Individuals with professional experience or interest in behavioral health, rural health, long term care, workforce development, and health equity are particularly encouraged to apply.
Teaching assignments are flexible and may include courses not listed based on an area of expertise that complements or expands the department's offerings. This position may also include an administrative program director role depending on experience and interest.
A typical teaching load for a fixed-term faculty member is 15 credits (5 classes) at 80% FTE or 18 credit hours (6 classes) at 100% FTE per year. The selected faculty member is expected to advise and mentor students, review student deliverables such as practicums, capstone projects, and DrPH dissertations, and contribute service to the department, University and community.
Position requires in-person teaching of undergraduate and graduate-level courses, and in-person availability for student mentoring. Qualified individuals with a disability may request accommodations through the University Compliance Office.

Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsA master’s or doctoral degree in health policy and management, business, economics, public health, public policy, public administration, government, social work, nursing, medicine, industrial and operations engineering, or a related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience- Experience in health policy and/or management in health care systems, provider organizations, consulting firms, not-for-profit organizations, government, community, or other health-related settings.
- Experience teaching or demonstrated potential to teach the courses/content areas listed above in university and/or work settings to students and/or professionals with varying levels of academic preparation and experience. This may include formal classroom teaching, teaching assistant experience, delivering training sessions, workshops, presentations at professional meetings, guest lectures, coaching, and mentoring.
- Experience and interest in using teaching methods that emphasize and encourage active learning.
- Experience and interest in teaching in both residential and online formats.
- Experience and interest in advising and mentoring students or professionals.
- Experience overseeing projects, practicums, and capstone projects in college and university settings or similar organizations.
- Experience employing strategies to ensure access to resources and promote student success in a public university setting where students reflect diverse socioeconomic, racial, religious, and other characteristics across the state.
