Adjunct Instructor for Doctor of Medical Science Program
The Doctor of Medical Science Program within the Department of Medical Sciences at High Point University is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to serve as a Course Director. Course assignments commensurate with individual candidate experience, content expertise and program need. Assignments may include any of the following:
- EBM in Medical Sciences
- Healthcare Leadership
- Patient Safety
- Research Methods
- Health Professions Educator Concentration
- Health Professions Administration Concentration
Courses within the DMS program are offered in 6-week sessions. Each adjunct faculty member will be assigned one course that will be offered annually in one of the following 6-week sessions:
- Fall Semester:
Session A, Session B - Spring Semester:
Session A, Session B - Summer Semester:
Session A, Session B
It is strongly preferred that DMS Adjunct Faculty have a doctorate degree and have the requisite knowledge and skills to teach in the program effectively. Current NCCPA certification if a PA; current specialty board if a MD/DO. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching medical learners and familiarity with online learning. A proven history in PA leadership, scholarship, and advocacy desired.
Candidates located in remote locations to High Point, North Carolina will be considered.
Course content would need to be developed and uploaded into the Blackboard Ultra learning management system before the start of the 6-week course (session). Course content/activities includes:
- Recorded lectures
- Meaningful application activities or facilitation of thoughtful discussions via discussion boards
- Interaction with students during the six weeks
- Grading or evaluating student work/assignments, with grades submitted immediately after the end of the session
- Maintains effective assessment strategies for course and curriculum improvement
- Fosters curricular and instructional approaches that recognize differences in individual learning, encourage problem-solving, and facilitate the acquisition of competencies and skills in the most efficient and effective manner possible
- Ensures course specific student learning outcomes are achieved and incorporated from the program provided syllabus template through best educational practices in teaching and mentoring
- DMS students should not be required to purchase books for the course; however, the reading materials and topics that meet the learning objectives are up to the individual course instructor
- The program roughly estimates 6 hours of time per week per course for students in the DMS program. Recordings, activities, readings, and assignments should be geared to meet program defined learning outcomes using these "guiderails"
