-Chapel Hill’s Latinx communities and educates the campus and beyond through engagement, scholarship, cultural awareness and public service. The Carolina Latinx Center provides students, faculty and staff the opportunity to explore Latinx cultures, histories and tradition and to use that understanding to work across racial and ethnic communities in North Carolina and the world. For faculty, staff and students who are engaged in research, teaching and/or service related to Latinx communities and issues, the CLC connects them both with one another and with community partners.

The Carolina Latinx Center Associate Director (CLC-AD) fulfills an important part of the CLC’s mission of bridging the richness of Latinx communities with the strengths of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in research, teaching, and service. The associate director works closely with the director and staff to carry out the essential responsibilities of the Center such as program administration, evaluation and assessment, academic, campus, and community engagement, and new and current partnership development.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsRelevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience- Experience with university/community engagement, including learning, scholarship, and service.
- Ability to plan, manage and evaluate programs and develop new programs and initiatives as needed.
- Experience managing programmatic budgets.
- Experience supervising volunteer and/or student workers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent conceptual, innovation, interpersonal, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills; a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Excellent customer service and collaboration skills.
- Ability to independently plan, manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people and organizations and keep leadership and staff well informed of project progress and changes.
- Familiarity with web-based education technology and learning community technology.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver).
- Experience with social media programs (Twitter, Facebook, Linked In and You Tube).
- Knowledge of current practices, trends and issues in education and the Latinx communities.
- Bilingualism (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.
Special physical/mental requirements needed to perform the duties of position.
Campus Security Authority ResponsibilitiesThis position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
