High School Equivalency (HSE) Lab Instructor (Part-Time) Corrections
The High School Equivalency (HSE) Lab Instructor is a part-time instructional position located at Anson Correctional Institution. Under the direction of the High School Equivalency Director, the HSE Lab Instructor will be responsible for providing reading, writing, and math support to assist adult learners in earning a high school equivalency diploma and transitioning to post-secondary training and/or employment.
Responsibilities- Plan and facilitate mini lessons for adults lacking a high school credential in language arts and math using the NC Adult Education Content Standards.
- Support critical-thinking skills to enable success in high school equivalency exam preparation across reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
- Use technology to support instruction.
- Communicate academic material in a positive and appropriate learning environment.
- Maintain required paperwork, including an online attendance roster, registration forms, and student portfolios.
- Communicate with the High School Equivalency Director.
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and ACI staff.
- Sensitivity to students with diverse educational backgrounds.
- Ability to multitask in a classroom setting.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to facilitate basic test-taking skills.
- Eligibility for facility entry and willingness to complete required training session.
- Experience teaching adult students.
- Experience teaching Adult Basic Skills and/or public schools.
- Experience working or volunteering with individuals with diverse educational backgrounds.
- Ability to facilitate math learning through Algebra and Geometry level.
