Hiring Range: $20.00–$25.00 per hour. This is a non‑exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity.
The South Boulevard Library is located on South Boulevard, just 0.60 miles from the Lynx Blue Line Scaleybark Station. Originally opened in 1985 as the Scaleybark Library, this 18,850‑square‑foot building is a convenient location for the many customers in this growing area along South Boulevard. The new branch includes new, reimagined spaces for both children and teens, public computers, children’s computers, a large community room, a programming room, a quiet reading room, a calming room, five group study rooms, a computer lab and a laptop bar for customers who want to bring their own devices, many collaborative spaces and a vending café.
The South Boulevard Library has one of the largest Spanish and bilingual (Spanish/English) collections to serve its large Spanish‑speaking community.
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value‑added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions- Programming for preteens, teens and emerging adults
- Build and maintain community partnerships
- Manage teen volunteers
- Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Provide service desk coverage; assist customers at several service points
- Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
- Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
- Assist with volunteer management
- Promote and market library programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communications to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
- Design and provide developmentally appropriate programs for ages 9 to 24
- Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays
- Provide electronic resource assistance and basic computer skills training for library users
Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of integrated library systems software (e.g., Polaris)
- At least three years of library, customer service and/or administrative experience
- Experience working with preteens and teens
- Bilingual – Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) preferred
- Experience working with minority populations, cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Knowledge of alpha‑numeric sorting systems, various library systems
- Telephone etiquette
- Young adult literature and developmental stages of teenagers
- Strong technology adeptness
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills with attention to detail
- Adaptability: maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in responsibilities or environment
- Communication: clearly conveying information to individuals or groups
- Collaboration:
working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining good working relationships - Technical/professional knowledge and skills: having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position‑related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise
- Work standards: setting high standards of performance for self; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self‑imposing standards of excellence
- Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
Full time, benefit eligible. Includes a minimum of one evening shift per week and a rotating weekend schedule.
