Position Overview
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students in grades K–5. The school counselor will design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the ASCA National Model
. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and well-being.
- Implement a comprehensive school counseling program addressing academic, career, and social-emotional development.
- Provide individual and small group counseling to support student needs.
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons aligned with developmental standards.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify and support students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.
- Attend MTSS/Intervention team meetings and assist with student support plans.
- Provide crisis response and intervention when necessary.
- Maintain appropriate student records and confidentiality in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student needs and available support.
- Coordinate with outside agencies and community resources when appropriate.
- Participate in school committees, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
- North Carolina School Counselor License (or eligibility for licensure)
- Knowledge of child development and counseling strategies for elementary-aged students
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Experience working in an elementary school setting
- Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Experience implementing the ASCA National Model
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
