Must be available to work 25-29 hours per week for daytime and evening hours, potentially including weekend hours if necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Training:
Bachelor’s degree required in a related area and at least 5 years of related experience. Master’s degree in related area preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
The person seeking this position must have strong interpersonal skills, verbal communication, reasoning ability, ability to work with others individually or in groups, and maintain the confidential nature of services provided. This person must be able to assess academic ability, monitor student progress, and have an understanding of language processing or other learning challenges.
Physical Requirements:
None ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Position requires tutoring students in various courses offered by the University. Developing student study skills, reading skills, and creating a positive learning environment are required. In addition, keeping accurate records of students tutored and length of tutor appointment times are the position's responsibilities. Communication with the Senior Learning Excellence Specialist and with Specialists on the progress of students tutored is required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
The professional reading tutor reports to the Senior Learning Excellence Specialist.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The part-time professional reading tutor will be responsible for working with Learning Excellence students weekly. This person must be engaged and proactive with Learning Excellence students while on duty.
