The School of Education Resource Center is a branch of HPU Libraries and supports the teacher education programs of High Point University’s School of Education. We primarily serve patrons who are students and faculty within the School of Education; however, resources are available to all members of the university community.
Job DescriptionThe student assistant will be responsible for circulation services at the SOE Resource Center during select afternoon and evening hours. This includes assisting patrons with finding materials, checking materials in and out, shelving materials, answering the phone, monitoring the space to ensure tidiness, and enforcing rules. Successful candidates will be friendly and approachable as this position requires interaction with peers and communicating with library and occasionally other university staff.
Job Location /HoursThe candidate will perform most/all job duties in the SOE Resource Center, and must be available to work short shifts (2-4 hours) during the late afternoon/early evening at least two days a week Monday through Thursday. The position is not expected to exceed 10 hours a week, and the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours.
Responsibilities- Performs circulation duties
- Checks materials in and out, places and locates holds
- Shelves materials in the appropriate areas
- Moves library materials between campus library locations (as needed)
- Answers phone and patron questions at the desk
- Helps patrons locate materials in the library catalog and on the shelves
- Maintains the space and enforces rules
- Other duties as assigned
- Applicants must be able to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with library staff, students, and visitors.
- Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 overall GPA.
- Education majors with knowledge of or interest in children’s literature preferred.
