Technical Service Chemist
Mid-sized specialty chemical company is looking for an experienced water-based coatings formulator. If you are a chemist with expertise in coatings R&D and like managing projects and working with customers, this could be a great opportunity for you! Duties- Assist the Sales team in maintaining and growing new business through focusing on customer needs and requirements
- Identify technology gaps and provide technical insight to R&D to develop new products for new and existing customers
- Lead technical service projects, including formulation development, design of experiments, use of in-house testing equipment, presentation of project results to technical group / customers and make recommendations on project direction
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of coatings formulations and maintain knowledge of competitive technologies and market trends
- Assist customers with problem analysis, batch qualification, troubleshooting
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support (HSE) Health, Safety and Environmental programs
- Establish positive and communicative relationships with Sales, Applications, Quality Assurance, R&D groups and Production
- Maintain understandable, comprehensive and detailed records of Technical Service projects; effectively collect, communicate and manage information and data flow
- Key technical interface between the business and external customers; responsible for applications role in business / product development cycle
- Promote products at technical conferences by giving presentations and write publications for industry journals
- Possible annual overseas travel
$80,000 - $100,000

Technical Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Coatings Science or Polymer Science required
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience with waterborne coatings formulation and development for architectural and industrial applications
- Strong knowledge of coatings for wood, metal and concrete substrates required
- General knowledge of waterborne acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions
- General knowledge of air dry, radiation cure and 2K systems
