NES Fircroft is actively seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in Utility/Power Distribution Capital Projects for a full‑time and long‑term contract‑to‑hire opportunity in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

Our client is seeking a Project Electrical Engineer to work as part of our Capital Projects at Kings Mountain Mine. The role provides technical engineering and design support services to ensure safety, operational and technical integrity in all process aspects of the mining, chemical and manufacturing processes used to make lithium products from the FEL and detailed engineering phases through to plant construction and commissioning.

The candidate will have significant experience in power systems, power studies, grounding, high‑voltage power lines and electrical standards, and will provide electrical design guidance on new and existing electrical power installations relevant to codes and corporate requirements. The engineer will serve as an interface between the utility provider Duke Energy and electrical equipment manufacturers.

The location of this position is at Kings Mountain, NC. Expected travel can be up to 25% and will be primarily short‑duration trips to gather information needed for design, review third‑party engineering, manufacturer visits, Duke Energy office or to inspect construction.

The candidate shall be fluent in English, with Spanish as a plus.

Responsibilities include:

• Works and effectively communicates with Engineering Manager and team of engineers of differing disciplines to execute assigned projects.
• Verifies the accuracy of plant documentation and modifies that documentation as needed during conceptual design development.
• Develops and documents the design basis, material equipment lists, drawing modifications, and estimated cost for installation of the electrical portion of the conceptual and front‑end engineering designs for capital projects that will be used to obtain funding and project approval.
• Sets strategy and determines resources required to define and engineer the electrical power distribution systems and components necessary to meet project requirements and specifications.
• Works with ETAP power models and verifies that the electrical installation being designed will meet short‑circuit, incident energy, and protective device coordination requirements set forth for the plant site.
• Executes and/or leads the electrical design efforts including development and/or review revisions to electrical area classification drawings, single‑line diagrams, substation and motor control center design, specifications and purchase of electrical equipment, creation of wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and design of lighting and grounding systems.
• Ensures the accuracy of design information whether done by client personnel or by outside contractors prior to being issued for construction.
• Provides assistance in overseeing construction efforts as it pertains to electrical design and assists with any troubleshooting or problem solving required to meet installation deadlines.
• Verifies drawings and design details of existing facility are up to date and all field modifications made during construction are accurately documented and released back to the customer in a timely manner.
• Supervises and influences the electrical design activities conducted by the engineering contractor.
• Reviews and develops electrical design standards and specifications and enhances the existing standards to improve efficiency and quality.
• Supports the project(s) as Electrical Engineering Lead during all phases of a capital project – scope development, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
• Researches, interprets, and ensures compliance with regulatory and design codes and standards, maintaining awareness of changing requirements and considering them in engineering designs.
• Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems.
• Participates in HAZID, HAZOP and risk reviews, ensuring that process hazard analysis open/action items are adequately addressed in engineering deliverables prior to execution.
