Labcorp is a global leader in diagnostic testing and drug development solutions, helping healthcare providers, researchers, and patients make informed decisions that advance care. We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our team in Burlington, NC or Durham, NC offices.

Full‑time, exempt (salaried) position. First Shift: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hybrid schedule: minimum three in‑office days per week for applicants living within 35 miles of either location.

• Own and deliver long‑term product or platform goals across multiple teams, defining what and how while maintaining high standards for technical outcomes.
• Create coherent designs across multiple systems and boundaries, choosing the right technologies fitting within a larger architecture.
• Roll out or deprecate major features or systems without negatively impacting other teams.
• Own overall health, engineering quality, and operational strategy (testing, observability, health monitoring) of multiple systems.
• Set clear system metrics and achieve them consistently.
• Provide high‑quality feedback on designs written by engineers across the organization.
• Champion responsible adoption of AI and agentic engineering practices, helping the team leverage these tools while maintaining quality and oversight.
• Identify and prioritize solutions to ambiguous, open‑ended problems with organization‑wide impact.
• Define and deliver the vision for large business‑impacting projects spanning multiple teams and years.
• Influence roadmaps of other teams to hit business goals and ensure cross‑team alignment.
• Proactively identify opportunities and act across the engineering organization.
• Serve as a role model and mentor for engineers across multiple teams, setting the standard for technical excellence.
• Break down silos and build cross‑functional relationships to ensure the right conversations happen.
• Inspire teams and stakeholders to work toward the company's long‑term vision.
• Anticipate organizational or technical challenges, execute effectively despite misalignment or ambiguity.
• Share knowledge through tech talks, blog posts, documentation, and mentorship.

• 6 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree.
• 2+ years owning and delivering technical strategy across multiple teams and years.
• 1+ year influencing product and technical roadmaps beyond immediate team.
• 2+ years with multiple programming languages (Java, Python, Type Script, Kotlin).
• 2+ years with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and distributed systems at scale.
• 2+ years with Kubernetes, containerization, and infrastructure‑as‑code.

• 4+ years with a master's degree or higher.
• 1+ year defining and executing multi‑year technical strategy in healthcare technology or regulated industries.
• 2+ years with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CDA) and their application at scale.
• 2+ years with multiple EHR systems (Epic, Cerner) and understanding of clinical workflows.
• 2+ years designing and implementing integration architectures using Mirth, Cloverleaf, or Redox.
• 2+ years navigating healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST) in design and operations.
• 1+ year working in clinical laboratory, genomics, or diagnostics industries.
• 1+ year with AI‑assisted development tools and agentic engineering workflows, focusing on responsible adoption.

• Demonstrated ability to design systems that span multiple platforms and boundaries.
• Contributions to open‑source projects, technical publications, or speaking at industry conferences.
• Experience serving as a technical role model and mentor across an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, anticipate challenges, and execute despite misalignment.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams.
