Slane Co.'s client is seeking a Senior Controller to join their growing site development and civil construction company. This individual would lead accounting and financial operations for this Wake County, NC based organization. This individual will play a key leadership role in overseeing financial reporting, job costing, and internal controls while partnering closely with ownership and operations to support strategic decision-making and company growth.
This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong background in construction accounting, who can bring structure, visibility, and accountability to the financial function.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
- Manage and refine job costing processes to ensure accurate tracking of project performance and profitability
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Partner with ownership and project leadership to provide financial insights, forecasting, and budget analysis
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
- Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and support financial planning
- Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Coordinate with external partners including CPAs, auditors, and tax advisors
Qualifications
- 10+ years of accounting experience, with significant experience in construction or site development
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Vista, Sage, Quick Books, or similar)
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
