Internal Audit Consultant

The Internal Audit Consultant is responsible for the oversight, governance, and continuous improvement of Internal Audit policy, methodology, and audit practice to help ensure work is performed consistently and in conformance with the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, internal methodology, and quality expectations. This role maintains policy and practice guidance, monitors adherence, supports governance forums, and partners with audit teams and Quality Assurance to address methodology issues, remediation needs, and changes in professional standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the governance and maintenance of Internal Audit policies, procedures, job aids, and related guidance, including reviewing standards changes annually and updating methodology documentation as needed.
  • Oversee conformance with audit practice requirements by monitoring execution, reinforcing documentation and re-performance expectations, and helping ensure audit work aligns with internal methodology and IIA standards.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and the Policy & Practice Steering Committee to evaluate exceptions, approve or escape deviations, and drive remediation when additional audit work or methodology corrections are required.
  • Manage multiple assurance or advisory engagements simultaneously, demonstrating high-energy, flexibility, time management and strong communication skills.
  • Lead engagements from planning to completion, applying auditing techniques, identifying key risks and controls, coordinating staff, summarizing issues, recommendations, and conclusions, and managing client relations.
  • Use analytics and data visualization tools to perform full population testing and identify new audit methods through data analytics or continuous auditing.
  • Manage engagement teams of approximately one to ten associates, providing coaching and feedback on audit skills.
  • Drive ongoing risk assessments that feed into the risk-based audit plan.
  • Develop relationships across the enterprise to provide care to customers and act as a trusted business advisor.
  • Contribute to initiatives and act as a change agent driving agility and innovation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technical, or related field preferred; advanced degree preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, or PMP desired.
  • More than six years of experience in audit, risk management, or related field; experience in insurance or financial services preferred.
  • Proficiency in audit, business, and information technology concepts; knowledge of multiple functional areas; project management and motivational theory application.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision‑making, verbal and written communication, collaboration, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with data analytics and continuous auditing tools a plus.
Working Conditions

Hybrid role based in Columbus, Ohio, requiring on‑site presence at least two days per week. Normal office environment. Not eligible for overtime. Compliance with ADA and background‑check requirements applies.
