Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Performs Quality Assurance reviews of pre-hospital and inter-facility transport of medical records
- Serves as Software Administrator for the purpose of maintaining EMS electronic charting system
- Implements changes as necessary to charting systems to comply with local, state and national reporting standards for electronic EMS documentation
- Document performance improvement activities in a timely and accurate manner
- Demonstrate excellent guest relations when dealing with EMS professionals, patients’ family members, medical center visitors, staff and physicians.
- Participates in the development of recruitment and retention programs
- Demonstrate ability to recognize risk management issues and report issues in a timely manner
- Maintains database of information pertaining to Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance
- Assist with the presentation of educational programs within EMS
- Provide direct patient care as needed based on system/operational demand
- Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education And Formal Training- Associates degree in Emergency Medical Science or equivalency required
- Current certification by the State of North Carolina as a Level I Paramedic Instructor required
- Current NC Paramedic certification required
- Current certification (instructor preferred) in International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) as sponsored by the Academy of Emergency Physicians or equivalent required
- Current certification (instructor preferred) in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) pre-hospital provider or equivalent, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as sponsored by the American Heart Association required
- Current certification by the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission as an Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) or equivalent required
- Certificate of completion of the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission’s Hazardous Materials Awareness course or equivalent required
- Certificates of completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100, 200 and 700 required
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License or equivalent with five (5) years licensed driving experience in North Carolina required
- Preferred instructor certification for ITLS, BCLS, ACLS, and PALS
- All certifications and license must be maintained continuously while employed
- 5 years experience as a paramedic required
- Experience in working with paramedic level training programs is preferred
- Experience in the development and implementation of Performance Improvement programs is preferred
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous materials incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used
- Knowledge of locations in Cumberland County and the cities and locations contained therein, especially major streets, landmarks, rest homes, convalescence care centers and nursing homes
- Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established rules, procedures and protocols
