LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking to fill a Payroll Manager role for a well‑established, multi‑state organization based in the Triad area of North Carolina. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and hands‑on multi‑state payroll leadership experience coupled with knowledge of payroll tax compliance and process optimization, with a minimum of 5 years of total relevant experience.
This opportunity is ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys hands‑on ownership of complex payroll operations and serving as the internal expert on compliance, systems, and controls. The Payroll Manager will oversee accurate and timely payroll delivery across multiple states while partnering closely with HR and Finance to ensure alignment, audit readiness, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Manage end‑to‑end payroll processing for a multi‑state employee population, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance
- Oversee regular and non‑routine payroll cycles, including bonuses, retroactive adjustments, disability pay, and final pay calculations
- Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations, including state‑specific requirements
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for payroll tax reporting, filings, reconciliations, and year‑end activities
- Administer wage garnishments, tax levies, and child support orders in accordance with applicable laws
- Coordinate funding and reconciliation of retirement plan contributions and employee benefit deductions
- Support payroll‑related audits, including workers’ compensation, retirement plans, and government or compliance audits as applicable
- Reconcile payroll data between timekeeping, payroll, and general ledger systems to maintain financial accuracy
- Partner cross‑functionally with HR, Finance, and IT to improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related discipline preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive payroll experience, with a strong emphasis on multi‑state payroll
- Demonstrated expertise in payroll tax compliance, wage and hour regulations, and benefit deductions
- Experience working with large payroll systems and integrated timekeeping platforms (ADP experience highly valued)
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality
- Proven ability to document processes and support audit readiness
