Description of Work The Deputy Director manages the day-to-day operations of the site, directly supervising the management staff.
This position manages all capital improvement requests and projects and oversees the repair and maintenance of all Tryon Palace structures and properties. This position provides oversight of the state operations and works with the Executive Director on long-range planning. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist the Executive Director as required.
- Lead the management team by organizing and directing the management of facilities and ground, security, collections and exhibits, and interpretation and programming.
- Manage Tryon Palace private and state budgets and grants.
- Serve as institutional liaison with local, city and county agencies as proxy when required.
- Prepare progress reports, budget analysis, and major project reports as required.
- Work with Executive Director on long-range planning.

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing a historic site or museum
- Experience managing budgets
- Experience working with stakeholders, public entities, and partners
Position/Physical Requirements Mon - Fri 8AM - 5 PM with an hour for lunch. Evening & weekend work required to meet the needs of the site.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- NC Driver's License
