It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Reporting to the Correctional Lieutenant II, this position provides supervision of subordinate officers and their assigned tasks and activities regarding the custody and welfare of male offenders in a Medium custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
- Overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.
- Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. May serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
- Supervising offenders in restrictive housing.
- Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Completing Incident Reports, Use of Force, Disciplinaries, and Grievances.
Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management PreferencesCandidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Knowledge of facility operations Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures.
MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. To be considered for a Correctional Sergeant II position, ALL applicants must:
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
