Position Summary
Service First is the University’s initiative to transform administrative service delivery by reducing duplication, standardizing processes, and improving service quality and transparency. The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Service First Health Affairs Shared Services serves as the executive leader accountable for end‑to‑end service delivery within the assigned Service First grouping, including Human Resources, Finance & Procurement, Research Administration, and services provided by University Communication and Marketing and Information Technology Services.
As a key member of the senior management team, the role will develop and implement strategic planning and change management frameworks, achieve measurable improvements in cost efficiency, service quality, and operational performance, and champion a service‑first culture prioritizing responsiveness, reliability, and a high‑quality customer experience.
Additionally, the assistant vice chancellor will own a defined portfolio of schools and units, partner with Deans and administrative leadership to align service delivery with academic, research, and operational priorities, and lead process standardization to eliminate duplicative structures.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsRelevant post‑baccalaureate degree: equivalent undergraduate degree with 5–7 years of related professional experience may be substituted for an advanced degree.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience- Minimum eight years of progressive and relevant experience in finance, human resources, information technology, research administration, customer service, or a related field, with at least five years of managerial responsibility.
- Master’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field.
- Experience in higher education administration within the UNC System.
- Familiarity with administrative processes, procedures, and systems at a large research university or government agency.
- Experience building and managing a shared services organization providing finance, human resources, and/or information technology services.
- Proven experience leading large, complex, highly visible organizational transformation initiatives.
- Experience developing and managing high‑performance teams with high employee satisfaction.
- Experience leading through influence and inspiring others to achieve organizational goals.
- Knowledge of enhancing productivity, meeting customer expectations, and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Campus Security Authority ResponsibilitiesThis position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The assistant vice chancellor will report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training on reporting responsibilities.
