  • Our client, a specialty chemical manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join its onsite manufacturing plant in High Point, NC. The Production Engineer will support chemical manufacturing and batch processing operations with responsibility for process optimization, production efficiency, process safety, quality, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • This position works closely with production, process engineering, maintenance, and quality functions to improve chemical processes, troubleshoot equipment and process issues, support plant utilities and automated process control systems, and maintain compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate chemical manufacturing and batch production processes and implement improvements to productivity, quality, process efficiency, and manufacturing costs.
  • Apply statistical analysis and statistical process control techniques to monitor production performance, investigate quality issues, and support compliance with customer requirements.
  • Create and update work instructions, process descriptions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and related production documentation.
  • Provide technical and production support to the Process Engineering team.
  • Serve as the lead operations representative for Job Safety Observations, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
  • Identify and implement process optimization and cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and process requirements.
  • Support investigations of nonconforming products, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot production equipment and process issues and develop corrective actions.
  • Maintain and analyze plant capacity and production data, including production history, safety, quality, material inventory, maintenance, equipment trouble reporting, and training information.
  • Support annual plant maintenance shutdown activities.
  • Evaluate new materials, manufacturing processes, equipment, and procedures to improve product quality, production efficiency, and manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Management of Change (MOC) requirements for changes involving manufacturing processes, products, raw materials, equipment, and process systems.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 3+ years experience in manufacturing or chemical processing industry.
  • Experience with chemical manufacturing processes and batch processing or batch manufacturing.
  • Experience with automated process control systems, process automation, and control system configurations.
  • Experience utilizing Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for process automation and control.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)-covered processes and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, or related process safety activities.
  • Ability to interpret CAD drawings and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Knowledge of chemistry and chemical processes.
  • Knowledge of plant utility systems, including operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Must wear required PPE, including uniforms, hard hat, steel-toe boots, and safety glasses (PPE and uniforms provided by company).
  • Must be local to High Point, NC and have the ability to work onsite
Compensation:
  • Base salary in the 90k - 115k/year range
