Public Health Nurse III (Posting# )
This position is responsible for the Communicable Disease (CD) program, which includes developing programmatic guidelines, managing agreement addenda, and overseeing investigation, surveillance, and reporting of communicable diseases following CDC and NC Communicable Branch guidelines. The nurse serves as a resource for communicable disease issues and participates in outbreak investigations with the agency and the community.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement programmatic guidelines for the CD program.
- Conduct investigation, surveillance, and reporting of communicable diseases per CDC and NC guidelines.
- Serve as a resource for communicable disease issues for the agency and community.
- Participate in outbreak investigations.
- Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing, a Public Health Nursing rotation, and at least two years of Public Health Nursing experience; or
- Master’s in Public Health, graduation from a professional nursing school, and at least two years of professional nursing experience; or
- Graduation from a professional nursing school with at least three years of professional nursing experience, including two years of Public Health nursing experience.
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
- Valid driver’s license in North Carolina.
- Annual flu shot vaccine required for all health department employees (excluding individuals with accommodations or medical exemptions).
The hiring range for this position is $58,173 - $80,353. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
Signing and Retention Bonus- Sign‑in bonus: $3,750 paid in the first paycheck following employment and execution of the Employment Signing and Retention Bonus Agreement.
- Retention bonus: $3,750 paid in the next paycheck after completing 12 full months of employment in the same position following the signing bonus date.
An official completed Halifax County Application for Employment (HR1107) and college transcripts are required. Unofficial transcripts (e.g., student copies) are acceptable for application purposes; official transcripts will be required if selected. A criminal background check will be required prior to hiring.
